Canada is no.1 in all aspects! Three Canadian cities have been ranked as the most liveable cities in the world, according to the 2023 Global Liveability Index results produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). The report ranked 172 cities worldwide, where Vancouver (#5), Calgary (#7), and Toronto (#9) grabbed the top 10 places.
All these three cities scored 96 out of 100 in healthcare, education, and infrastructure facilities. Compared to last year’s ranking, all three cities retained their spot in the top 10 with slight variations. For instance, the most significant change is with Calgary, which significantly declined from third to eighth place. Additionally, Vancouver maintained its fifth position, while Toronto slipped one spot from eighth to ninth in 2023.
The Economic Intelligence Report (EIU) considers various parameters when assessing a city’s livability:
Vienna emerged victorious in the liveability factor, with an overall score of 98.5, followed by Copenhagen and Melbourne.
It is interesting to know that the difference between the first and the tenth spot is only two points. Besides Canada, Switzerland, and Australia have more than one city in the top 10. Osaka (the only city outside the North) also grabbed the tenth place sharing it with Auckland.

Vancouver
Positioned fifth, Vancouver is extremely popular among immigrants for plenty of reasons. The city performed fantastically across all ranking parameters, scoring 97.3 for overall mobility. Vancouver's progressive healthcare, public transportation, and economic stability make this city one of the best places to thrive. Vancouver scored a perfect 100 in healthcare and education, raising its residents' quality of life bar in the best possible manner.
Calgary
It comes as a surprise for many to see Calgary competing with other cities in the global ranking. The city continues to perform exceptionally well, scoring 100 in healthcare, education, stability, and infrastructure. Meanwhile, Calgary needs to perform well in the cultural and environmental factor (87.3), which we are sure will be visible in next year's report. The city has all the right ingredients to be the world’s most liveable place.
Toronto
Canada’s most populated city, Toronto, ranked ninth with an overall liveability score of 96.5. The city boasted an exceptional performance in stability (100), healthcare (100), and education (100). Toronto scored less in infrastructure (89.3), which can be attributed to its growing housing crisis. In addition, the city got a 94.4 rating for environment and culture as well.
Each of the three Canadian cities has its charm and magic spell on potential immigrants. Not only them but also many other popular cities like Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Quebec continue to attract newcomers due to their promising job opportunities, universal healthcare, world-class education, and top-notch infrastructure.
