2023 opens with Great news for Australia as processing times for major skilled visa subclasses like Subclass 189, Subclass 190, and provisional visa Subclass 491 are slashed making applicants relieved as lesser processing times help them in receiving their visa in a lesser time.

Here is a breakdown:

For Subclass 189 or skilled Independent visa, the processing time has been reduced from 3 to 5 months wherein

  • 25% of the visa applications will be processed in 3 months
  • 50% of the visa applications will be processed in 5 months
  • 75% of the visa applications will be processed in 5 months
  • 90% of the visa applications will be processed in 5 months

For Subclass 190 or Skilled Nominated visas, the processing time has been reduced from 4 to 14 months

  • 25% of the visa applications will be processed in 4 months
  • 50% of the visa applications will be processed in 5 months
  • 75% of the visa applications will be processed in 6 months
  • 90% of the visa applications will be processed in 14 months

For Subclass 491 or Skilled Work Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa the processing time has been reduced from 5 months to 20 months

  • 25% of the visa applications will be processed in 5 months
  • 50% of the visa applications will be processed in 12 months
  • 75% of the visa applications will be processed in 15 months
  • 90% of the visa applications will be processed in 20 months

There will be a priority processing of skilled visa applications according to government policies in the following order:

  1. The topmost priority in terms of processing shall be given to healthcare and teaching occupations applications.
  2. Next in line for priority processing, comes the employer-sponsored visas, which are visa applications under which the candidates are nominated by n Approved sponsor with Accredited Status.
  3. Visa applications that are related to an occupation are to be practiced in a designated regional area.
  4. Then comes the processing of permanent and provisional visa subclasses, which are visa applications that lead to migration programs. Subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional)) visa is excluded from this category.
  5. All the remaining visa applications.
